Autism Evaluation FAQs
Short answers to the questions parents ask most before an autism evaluation.
What ages do you evaluate for autism?
Children, teens and young adults ages 5 to 22.
How long does an autism evaluation take?
Testing is one full day in person. A full evaluation plus the written report typically takes two to three weeks.
Is the evaluation done in person?
Testing is in person at 353 Lexington Ave in Manhattan. The consultation and the feedback session can be in person or by video.
Can a child have autism and ADHD?
Yes, and it's common. The evaluation looks at both, along with anxiety, learning and other conditions that can overlap with autism.
My child is doing well in school. Could they still be autistic?
Yes. Bright, verbal children, and especially girls, often do well academically while struggling socially or emotionally. That's a common reason for a later evaluation.
What will the report include?
Whether your child meets criteria for autism, any co-occurring conditions, a profile of strengths and challenges, and recommendations for home, school and therapy.
Will the report help with an IEP or 504 plan?
Yes. The recommendations are written to support school planning, and schools must consider an outside evaluation that the family shares.
Do you take insurance?
The practice doesn't bill insurance directly. You receive paid invoices with insurance codes to submit for reimbursement at your insurer's contracted rate.
Is financial help available?
One needs-based scholarship evaluation is offered each quarter, following exactly the same process as any other evaluation.
Do you do custody evaluations?
No. Dr. Tutty does not provide custody, parenting or other divorce-related evaluations.
